Northeast Johnson County native David Morantz is the recipient of the Kansas Association for Justice’s 2013 Thomas E. Sullivan Award, the association announced this week.

Morantz, a 1994 graduate of Shawnee Mission East and an associate at Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman law firm, is receiving the recognition for his “promise as a developing leader for the association and its related Foundation.”

In his practice, Morantz focuses on medical negligence and products liability litigation. He’s been a member of the Kansas Association of Justice for eight years. The association is a non-profit that champions individual and corporate accountability and responsibility, independence of the judiciary, the right to trial by jury and high standards of ethics.

Morantz received his undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, and was a reporter for the Associated Press and the Omaha World-Herald before pursing his law degree at KU.

He will receive his award at the association’s annual meeting Dec. 6.
